This week I've been down to Whiteacres to fish the intermediate 3 day festival, this is the first time I've been to Whiteacres so i didn't know how the week was going to go, but i knew it would be good whatever happened.
The first day where were on jenny's lake. I drew peg 8, this peg has no island to cast to so i only had open water to go at. I started off shallow on 6mm bait tech pellets and hooked into a carp straight away, shortly followed by another small carp. I then went on the deck underneath where i was pinging pellets, this saw me catch a few more f1's before i started foul hooking fish.
With this method fading away I cast out the waggler where I had been feeding pellets from the off. Another 3 f1's in the net but nothing more. Looking around i saw a few people start to catch the odd fish shallow so i had another look on the pole and had a good run of fish for the next hour. It then slowed up slightly so i had to rest it for 10 mins before going on it again. I stuck at this until the end of the match and ended up with a total weight of 80lbs which was good enough the win the match.
The second day we were on canal, i drew peg 19 and started off the match on the deck at 13m, this saw me put 10 f1's in the net in the first hour with the other people i could see only catching 1 or 2, my peg then switched off and for the next 3 hours i caught odd f1's on numerous lines but couldn't string a good run of fish together.
In the last hour it picked up again slightly and i put a few more fish in the net to end up with a total weight of 43lbs which was good enough for 2nd on a tough day. I felt i made a few mistakes and could have caught more if I'd approached the peg differently, but with not knowing the lake i wasn't to disappointed.
The final day saw us on acorn. I drew peg 11 and started off on the feeder to the far bank with bait tech 2mm pellets in the feeder. I had a slow start to the match only catching 3 small f1's in the first hour and 20 minutes, with the others all catching odd fish on the feeder. I then decided to have a look down the edge where i had been feeding ground bait with bait tech scopex corn and few maggots mixed in. I caught a big f1 instantly followed by 7 more in the next hour. I then hooked into a couple of carp before it slowed up.
I then fed my edge lines again and decided to have a quick look shallow before going on them. This resulted in a f1 and then an unexpected carp of around 13lbs. I then went back down the edge and caught another 4 carp and a few more f1's to end up with a total of 67lbs 14oz. This was good enough for second again with the winning weight only 14oz more.
I've fished Maver UFO series 7 floats in 0.2g and 0.3g all week which have done an awesome job and never let me down.
This left me with a total of 13 points which was good enough to win the festival. Well done to all the other competitors who fished and to Drennan for sponsoring the festival. I had a great weeks fishing and learned loads, and back on Bradshaw hall fisheries on Sunday
Today I've been to high Hayes farm fishery. I've drawn peg 22 on lake 2.
At the start I've started short on chopped worm and caster which resulted in nothing,I've then chucked out a method feeder and caught steadily on that all day
At the weigh in I've weighed 59lb 10oz which has got me third in the match so not a bad day
Well done to my dad on winning the match with 81lb 3oz
