Today Ive been to Whitmore fishery and fished a match on the Donut Lake, I have
only fished this lake once before so I didn't really know what to expect.
At the draw I picked out peg 6, this has an aerator directly in front with a rope
tying it to the island, this made it difficult for me to cast to the island with a
method feeder as I had to virtually cast into peg 5 to reach it.
I decided to attack the match with a pellet approach, I started the match casting
towards the island with a method feeder, after 25 minutes without an indications I
decided to swap over to the waggler and chucked it to towards the aerator where I
had been firing a couple of pellets, this led to 5 carp in quick succession
shortly followed by 3 barbel.
Over the next hour I picked off another 3 carp before it slowed up, I then
switched to my shallow rig at 13m and flicked a few pellets around it. This
produced 4 carp straight away.
I spent the remainder of the match swapping between my waggler and my shallow pole
line which saw a few more carp enter the net.
When the scales came I weighed in 95lbs of hard fighting carp and barbel which was
enough to win the match. Well done to my brother Jake on coming second with 45lbs.
